PURPOSE:To produce the titled complex sintered body superior in degree of sintering and in mechanical strength by heating to melt the mixture of Bayer alumina, baddeleyite contg. high ratios of ZrO2 and MgO, and quenching to solidify the molten mixture, and then pulverizing, molding, and sintering the quenched body. CONSTITUTION:13-250pts.wt. baddeleyite contg. ZrO2 with the high ratio of 97-99% and 1-12pts.wt. MgO are mixed with 250pts.wt. Bayer alumina. This mixture is heated to melt, and then quenched to solidify, and the solidified body is pulverized to be 2-3mum grain diameter. The obtained powder is molded, and sintered at 1,200-1,800 deg.C, and thus the target alumina-zirconia complex sintered body of high toughness is produced. The complex sintered body is of high strength and of high toughness as compared with the alumina-zirconia sintered body excluding MgO. |
