<p>PURPOSE:To prevent a deciding error of a tape position and a malfunction of tape winding, etc. due to a fault of a hole sensor, by utilizing a format rule regarding a hole arrangement for controlling plural tapes, as a checking pattern, and checking an operation of the hole sensor. CONSTITUTION:A hole is detected by making a tape run in the reverse direction and it is stopped. Subsequently, the tape is made to run to a point indicated with an arrow A in the forward direction, to a point indicated with an arrow B, and to a point indicated with an arrow C, in case when the stop position of the tape is in the second area or in the tape start end side from said area, in case when it is in the third area, and in case when it is in the fourth area, respectively, whether a hole signal coinciding with a format is detected or not is checked, also the tape is made to run in the reverse direcion, and in the same way, whether a coinciding signal is detected or not is checked. In case when a hole sensor is normal, the tape is initialized to a position of the first BOT. For instance, when the lower hole sensor of the hole sensors is faulty, the signal is detected only as a hole signal of LP or EW, and it is decided to be a fault of the sensor.</p> |
