A device 1 for locking together containers stacked one on top of another has a projecting middle section 4 with bearing surfaces 5, 6 for a first and a second container and integrally formed with the middle section a first end section 2 having a flange 7 for engagement with the container corners of the first container, and a second end section 3 for insertion in the container corners of the second container. The second end section has a locking head rotatable between an engagement position and a release position and having an engagement surface 11 facing towards the middle section. The rotation of the locking head is controlled by a handle 9, which can be rotated between two outer positions and has an axis of rotation 19 proceeding from the middle section. When the first end section is introduced into a container corner, the locking element 8 is pressed into the middle section. The locking element interacts with the axis of rotation 19 so that the handle 9 is forced to assume the outer position, in which the locking head 19 is in the engagement position, when the locking element is depressed.
