PURPOSE: To obtain a flavorous antimicrobial preparation containing an antimicrobial biguanide compound, an alkyl glycoside surfactant, a water- insoluble aromatic oil, a solubilizing agent or further ethanol and useful as preserving a gargling agent. CONSTITUTION: This flavorous antimicrobial preparation includes (A) 0.0025-0.1wt.% antimicrobial biguanide compound [e.g. 1,1'-hexamethylenebis(4- chlorophenyl)-biguanide(chlorhexidine)], (B) 0.005-0.2wt.% alkyl glycoside having an 8-16C alkyl group and a 1-8 average degree of oligomerization, (C) 0.01-0.3wt.% water-insoluble aromatic oil (e.g. peppermint oil), (D) 0.01-0.3wt.% solubilizing agent (e.g. an ethoxylated fatty acid glyceride) and (E) 0-15wt.% ethanol. The preparation is useful without causing inflammation of mucosa because the preparation includes a low concentration of the component A and the uniformly solubilized component C and contains only a small amount of the ethanol.
