MANUFACTURE OF PLATE-LIKE ELECTRODE FOR ELECTRIC DISCHARGE MACHINING

PURPOSE:To form a plate-like electrode having a thick part and a thin part whose thickness reduces from both sides by pressing a long-sized flat plate stock having a rectangular section between a flat plate-like die where an acute angle projected rib is formed on the plate face and a press roll provided with a projected rib in the peripheral direction. CONSTITUTION:A projected rib 3 of a die 2 consists of an edge 6 which gradually rises from a top end 3a and then parallels a plate face 4 and two tapered faces 7, 7 on the right and left sides of the line 6. A peripheral projected rib 10 of a press roll 5 consists of an annular edge line 8 corresponding to the line 6 and right and left tapered faces 9, 9. The roll 5 is installed to freely approach or leave the plate face 4. In the case of pressing, the roll 5 reciprocates by a distance (l) along the face 4 and presses a stock 1. When the stock 1 is transferred every rotation of the roll 5, the central part of the stock 1 held by the ribs 3 and 10 is pressed and spread in side directions to be formed into a long-sized stock 1a. The stock 1a is divided into two pieces at the central part and the stock 1a is cut by a proper length to obtain plate-like electrodes having a thick part and a thin part whose thickness is reduced from both sides.
