摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To reduce a variation due to a temperature change or the like by a method wherein a light-emitting device of an end-face light-emitting type having a junction perpendicular to a light-emitting face and a photodetecting device having a PIN junction parallel to a photodetecting face are united in such a way that the light-emitting face and the photodetecting face are situated in parallel to each other in a tiered manner being formed into a unitary body. CONSTITUTION:A light-emitting device of an end-face light-emitting type having a junction perpendicular to a light-emitting face 25 and a photodetecting device having a PIN structure parallel to a photodetecting face 26 are united in such a way that the lightemitting face 25 and the photodetecting face 26 are situated in parallel to each other and alternately. A hole injected from a semiconductor substrate 11 during a light-emitting operation flows to only a place where a blocking layer 12 is interrupted, is injected into an active layer 14, and is recombined with an electron; the emitted light is output from one point on the light- emitting face 25. Because the light incident on the photodetecting face 26 inside a window 24 from the outside during a photodetecting operation is incident in a direction nearly perpendicular to a PIN junction, it is absorbed efficiently and an electron-hole pair is generated.</p>
