A device in a copier for separating sheet-like or web-like copier material from the image-carrying drum is specified. The image-carrying drum is rotatably mounted at its end faces and has on its circumferential surface a photoconductive layer and possibly an insulating layer placed thereover. In addition, the image-carrying drum has at a short distance from an end face a circumferential groove in which a ring of soft, elastic material is arranged, which ring in the relieved state extends radially beyond the image-carrying drum. When the copier material which is located, for example, on transporting webs is pressed against the image-carrying drum by a pressure roller (back pressure roller, nip roller), the elastic material of the ring, for example foamed material, is pressed in the region of the roller slit into the circumferential groove. Behind the roller slit, the foamed material is again released, assumes its original shape and thereby lifts the copier material off the image-carrying drum.
