A low stabilised direct voltage UA is generated from a considerably higher pulsating direct voltage supply UE. A capacitor 26 at the output is charged by way of a switch 24 insofar as the load 23 demands. The energy supply is effected by switch operation in such a way that, close to the zero passage at each of the two flanks of a half-wave of the pulsating voltage UE, the switch 24 is closed briefly for recharging the capacitor. The actuation of the switch is effected by evaluating the voltage applied to the capacitor, the voltage varying at the input and a reference voltage, using an operational amplifier 27 or a Schmitt trigger circuit or logic elements.
