A method and an arrangement for monitoring the function of an active reduction protection device are indicated, wherein the input voltage is obtained from a non-earthed pilot wire, the method being characterised in that a voltage obtained from the cable sheathing current is compared with the pilot wire voltage and an alarm is activated if the ratio of these voltages deviates from a normal value.
