The instrument described is the first to open up the crevices in the region of the teeth, i.e. the subgingival spaces, by cancelling out capillary adhesion. The capillary cavity is opened up with the aid of the elastic suction cap (1) by creating a sealed vacuum over the crevice, because a vacuum neutralizes the capillary adhesion forces. The vacuum method thereby permits access to the interdental crevices. This is not possible with conventional instruments (rinsing and suction devices with canulas). Intermittent application of the vacuum produces a pumping action, which through likewise intermittent rinsing results in optimal cleaning of the interdental crevices as far as the base of the pocket. Drugs can be introduced into the base of the subgingival space in a similar way using the vacuum method. |
