PURPOSE: To make it possible to detect an exposure level with low photoconductivity by arranging an exposed photographic element in an electromagnetic field, cooling the element, uniformly exposing the element to radiant rays with a comparatively short wavelength, exposing the element to pulse-like radiant rays with a high intensity and a long wavelength and measuring obtained signal with a high frequency photoconductive device. CONSTITUTION: An exposed photographic element is prepared, arranged in an electromagnetic field and cooled to prevent the generation of furthermore image formation. The element is uniformly exposed to radiant ryas (radiation rays) with comparatively short wavelength and then the element is exposed to pulse-like radiant rays with high intensity and comparatively long wavelength in order to excite electrons existing on the center of the image. Then an obtained signal is measured by the high frequency photoconductive device. Consequently, the method can be suitably applied to a system based upon a reaction for forming an image as the result of photochemical activity.
