PURPOSE: To accurately grasp the position and the attitude of an excavator by a method wherein two running bodies intercoupled through a universal cou pling is run through a conduit line formed by an underground excavator and based on angle displacement and a running distance. CONSTITUTION: Two running bodies 40 and 41 intercoupled in series through a universal coupling 9 is run through a conduit line built by an underground excavator 20. A displacement detecting means to detect kinds of angle displacementα1 ... in a vertical direction and a horizontal direction of two running bodies 40 and 41 and a distance measuring means to measure a running distance L between the two running bodies 40 and 41 in the conduit line are provided. Two pieces of measuring data are guided to a data processing device 26 through a transmission cable 25 for computation processing. The locus of the underground excavator 20 is displayed on a display device 27 and its present position and attitude are always grasped. |
