An actuating device contains a position transmitter (DPG, VRZ) connected to the actuator (VT). To determine the actuator travel end-positions of the actuator (VT), the actuator is displaced first in one direction and then in the other direction, until a control unit (SL) connected to the position transmitter (DPG, VRZ) in each case determines a standstill. The position signals emmitted here by the position transmitter (DPG, VRZ) are those of the actuator travel end-positions. The main field of application of the invention is actuators. <IMAGE>
