Device for preventing motor vehicles from travelling in one direction, in order, on carriageways (1) on which it is permitted to travel in only one direction, such as motorway exits, to prevent vehicles travelling in the wrong direction (F), having a multiplicity of ram wedges (10) which are pivotably mounted in recesses (8, 32) of the carriageway (1), said ram wedges in their rest position protruding obliquely upwards out of the carriageway (1) counter to the direction of travel (F) to be blocked and being constructed and mounted in such a way that their obliquely upwardly protruding end (14) they pierce or cut through the tyres (30) of a motor vehicle travelling in the wrong direction (F) and in the case of a motor vehicle travelling in the right direction swivel back into the recesses (8, 32) of the carriageway (1) at least far enough for the vehicle to travel over them safely. <IMAGE>
