A ball joint comprises a holder (1) having an opening (9a) which forms, when closed by cover member (8), an oil basin (9). By forming the joint with an opening (9a), this opening may be used to insert an electrode (25) to support the ball (4a) while it is projection welded to a connecting portion in the form of a rod (4b). The opening (9a) is formed by a ball supporting member (23) provided on one of the holder die members (21,22) which are used to cast the socket around the ball. <IMAGE>
