PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a Roman character input device by collectively deleting an input Roman character part string corresponding to the final ''kana'' (Japanese syllabary) in a ''kana'' string corresponding to an input Roman character string from the input Roman character string. CONSTITUTION:When a deletion control part 16 receives a deletion request from a deletion input part 15, an interpretation table final point value is read from an interpretation table final point temporary storage part 14, a value ''7'' on a Roman character interpretation table in a Roman character interpretation table temporary storage part 13 is read, ''1'' is subtracted from ''7'' to obtain ''6'' and the value ''6'' is stored in an input Roman character string final valid point temporary storage part 11 as shown in the row I of processing No.13. Consequently, the input Roman character string temperally stored in an input Roman character string temporary storage part 10 is turned to the row H in the processing No.13 and expressed as a collectively deleted format.
