Compounds of formula A min -B min -C min -D min wherein A min is a mono- or bi-cyclic group, containing the maximum number of double bonds in the ring, and, if it is heterocyclic containing only one or two heteroatoms chosen from nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur, with the proviso that if the monocyclic group is a phenyl group then the ring is substituted by at least one substituent and this is other than hydroxy, B min is -CO- or -SO2-, C min is -O-, -NH- or a bond, D min is an alkylene bridged piperidyl group wherein the alkylene bridge is between 2 ring carbon atoms and additionally contains an epoxy substituent attached to adjacent carbon atoms of the bridge or a double bond between adjacent carbon atoms in the bridge, in free base form, acid addition salt form or in quaternary ammonium salt form, are useful as 5 HT3 antagonists. The compounds may be used as gastric motility or gastric or gastric emptying stimulators, anti-dyspepsia agents and antiemetics and they may be used against gastro-oesophageal reflex and for inhibiting emesis caused by a cytostatic. |
