The tape (1) can be withdrawn to the required length from the housing (2) through a slot (7) tangentially, and the lock mechanism (12) can be made to clamp the tape by movement of an operating component (13). The lock mechanism comprises a sprung lock plate (15) fitted in the housing between the exit slot and the roll (3) of tape. In the freeing position, the plate lies alongside the tape, permitting it to run in a channel (6) and through the slot (7). On activation by the operating component (13) it moves against its spring effect against the tape, clamping it against a counter surface (37) in the housing. It is freed from pressure on the tape or applied against it by a pivotably located lock arm (14) operated by the operating component. The component when moved executes a longitudinal arc-shaped motion, working in conjunction with a monitoring arm (28) on the lock arm. The arm incorporates a cam (31) with a clamp surface (27). |
