PREFORM YARN FOR THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE MATERIAL

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject preform yarn having excellent post-processability and flexibility and giving a processed product having excellent tensile strength and flexural strength properties by providing a flexible sleeve of a thermoplastic resin around a reinforcing fiber bundle including inert ultrafine powder. CONSTITUTION: This preform yarn is obtained by using a reinforcing fiber bundle including 0.01-10 vol.%, preferably 0.02-5 vol.% of inert ultrafine powder having <=1/3 of its diameter of average specific surface area in a reinforcing fiber as a core material and forming a flexible sleeve comprising a thermoplastic resin around the core material. The fiber bundle keeps a separated state without adhering each fiber together by the presence of the ultrafine powder, has an excellent post-processability and is producible the preform yarn in a simple device with a few process at an excellent producing efficiency.
