Process for the production of charcoal: the combustion of a charge of wood 5 is carried out in a variable-geometry oven 1 fed with forced air 9 and with controls 10, 11 of the air flows and pressure and of the temperatures 30 of the combustion fumes and simultaneously the said fumes 34 are collected and are burnt in a secondary oven 13, itself also fed with forced air 18, preheated 19 in the combustion discharge funnel 20; this process makes it possible to reduce the combustion time and to discharge into the atmosphere nonpolluting burnt fumes. <IMAGE>
