PURPOSE:To improve withstand voltage, capacitance value and long-term reliability, by using an electrolyte, wherein specified quarternery ammonium salt is dissolved into a polar organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:An electric double-layer capacitor utilizes a electric double layers, which are formed at the interface between polarized electrodes 1 and 2 and an electroyte. In this capacitor, the electrolyte, wherein the quarternary ammonium salt of chain unsaturated carboxylic acid or carbon-ring carboxylic acid is dissolved into a polar organic solvent, is used. As the chain unsaturated carboxilic acid, e.g., maleic acid, fumaric acid, citraconic acid and the like are listed. As the carbon-ring carboxilic acid, e.g., benzoic acid, phthalic acid, salicylic acid, resorcylic acid, pyromellitic acid, cyclohexanecarboxylic acid, 1,5-naphtalenedicarboxyic acid and the like are listed. Thus, an electric double- layer capacitor characterized by a high withstand voltage, low capacitance deteriorating rate under the high temperature conditions and long-term reliability is obtained. |
