The seaweed is grown in a closed, artificial air and water environment at -2 to 29 deg.C by a combination of mechanical, physical, chemical and biological actions using saturated carriers of Porphyra in any of its states. The carriers are submerged in sea or fresh water with sufficient nutrients for the porphyras to extract by photo-synthesis in 5-6 hours. The carriers are then raised out of the water for 4-7.5 hours, to obtain protection against pithyum by aeration. The water is replaced, with addn. of nutrients as indicated by analysis. The process is repeated until harvesting.
