PURPOSE:To realize a coding with a little mismatch and a little distortion by rearranging code groups or input screens used for a vector quantization according to the number and the positions of detected edges and taking a matching by an absolute value. CONSTITUTION:An edge distribution in the screen reproduced in a screen predictor 3 is detected by an edge detector 6. A controller 6a reads the code groups corresponding to the number of the edges detected edged from a code book 4 and rearranges them to the positions of the detected edges. A converter 7 removes a polarity from the value of the picture element of the input screen corresponding to the position of the detected edges and feeds to a vector quantizer 1 in the form having the absolute value and feeds the polarity information of the edge picture element to a receiving side. The vector quantizer 1 takes the matching to an input vector from the rearranged code groups. |
