PURPOSE: To clearly display the information, and improve the strength by forming a phosphor layer having a prescribed pattern on an inner surface of a flat glass plate for emitting the light in various wavelengths at a desirable position and providing a conductive liquid and a protecting plate for protecting the glass plate. CONSTITUTION: A discharge lamp display device is formed of a discharge container, which is formed of glass plates 10, 12, the discharge gas sealed inside a discharge space, a phosphor layer 16 adhered to an inner surface of the glass plate 12 at a predetermined position, a first electrode 20 formed in an outer surface of the glass plate 10, a protecting plate 24 having a protecting function and arranged on the glass plate 12 with a predetermined space, and the conductive liquid 22 for functioning as a second electrode. Desirable information can be finely written and the predetermined information can be clearly displayed by appropriately selecting the pattern of the phosphor layer and the phosphor layer material so as to be formed at the predetermine position of the glass flat plate. Since the conductive liquid sealed between the glass plate and the protecting plate has a protecting function, strength is improved more.
