A device for the automatic exchange of film supply rolls and for splicing the end of a first film web to the start of a second film web comprises two driven feed-in roll pairs for the two film webs and two cutting devices for severing the film webs between their supply rolls and the feed-in roll pairs. The start of the second film web may be held firmly by a gripper and led to the end of the first film web. Splicing stamps serve for joining the two film webs. During the stoppage of the feed-in roll pair allocated to the first film web, the film is removed from an accumulator and fed continuously to the processing station. The drive of the feed-in roll pairs and the actuation of the cutting devices, the gripper and the splicing points are controlled by appropriate control means.
