The ignition coil (1) is a double coil having two separate magnetic circuits (M1, M2), which contains at least one primary winding (3) and one secondary winding (4) for each individual circuit. A heat sink (9) is provided for installation in a housing which is formed from insulating material, which heat sink (9) consists of two cages (10, 11) which are at a distance from one another and each cage being suitable for accommodating a magnetic circuit (M1, M2), the inner surface of the cage (10, 11) coming into direct contact with at least a part of the outer surface of the magnetic return path loop (5), and these cages (10, 11) being connected to one another. <IMAGE>
