<p>NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula (R<1>, R<3> and R<4> are H, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or further R<1> is lower alkynyl or lower phenylalkyl; R<3> and R<4> are cycloalkyl, lower phenoxyalkyl or lower phenylalkyl which may have a substituent group, e.g. lower alkyl, OH, lower alkoxyl, halogen, etc. on the phenyl ring;, etc.; R<2> is H, OH, lower alkoxyl or halogen; A is lower alkylene; l is 0 (R<2> is H) or 1; the dotted line is single or double bond]and a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:6-[1-Oxo-2-(1-piperidyl)ethyl]-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril monohydrochloride. USE:A cardiotonic agent useful for the treatment of heart diseases, e.g. congestive heart failure, having the activity of enhancing the contraction of cardiac muscles, i.e. positive inotropic action, and the activity of increasing the coronary blood flow rate. PROCESS:A compound of formula 2 is reacted with a compound of formula 3 to give the compound of formul 1a.</p> |
