Thermosetting powder coating compsn. has insufficiently high and long charge sepn. (friction charge of over 1.5 micro.A and simultaneous satisfactory maintenance of this charge for building up the coating) for producing a coating protecting against corrosion and/or chemicals and/or a decorative coating on a substrate by a triboelectric process, using triboelectric spray appts. A cationic ammonium additive (I) with extremely high polarity is added to make the powder lacquer suitable for triboelectric processing. (I) is incorporated in the melt phase during resin prodn. or added in the extruder used for granulation, the granulate pulverisation stage or during spraying. (I) is a tert. amine cpd., pref. a lauryltrialkylammonium sulphate (IA). ADVANTAGE - The lacquer adheres well to the substrate, the coating can be built up more quickly than usual and there is less 'over spray'.
