The invention relates to a method for the production of rotors for screw compressors by extrusion of materials produced by powder metallurgy, the method being characterised in that forming dies are produced for the screw-shaped rotor profiles and these dies are mounted at the outlet of an extrusion press, metal powder or metal-alloy powder containing additives which have a positive effect on the physical properties of a metal or a metal alloy and/or which have been precompacted are heated and then extruded into the forming dies and the extruded articles produced are removed from the forming dies. The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out this method, in which the forming die 20, which is open to allow a continuous emergence of the rotating rotor element 34, is arranged by joining the outlet end of an extruder 30. <IMAGE>
