Motorway catch-rail construction - has soil anchored supports, with trough shaped pivotal guide rails

Catch rail prevents motor vehicle bouncing back from rail into path of oncoming vehicle. On impact catch rail sections topple forward to provide a trough-shaped part in which vehicle wheels are guided. Construction of catch rails includes a spaced number of vertical supports (2) which at some distance from the road level carry a guide rail (3). Supports consist of vertical sections (4,5) interconnected with plate (6). Top part of vertical section (5) supports the guide rail which is connected to bracket (7). Trough shaped guide rail sections on impact topple inwards on pivot point (10) to provide a guide for vehicle wheels, thus preventing vehicle from hitting oncoming traffic.
