Process for thickening gold ore process slurries or slimes comprises adding a flocculant comprising a terpolymer (I) contg. 5-35 mole.% 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid (AMPS), 5-45 mole.% sodium acrylate and 50-90 mole.% acrylamide, (I) having an RSV of at least 20, (at least 30). Amt. of flocculant used is pref. sufficient to give a concn. of 0.2-45, (5-25) ppm.
