PURPOSE:To obtain a toner having an adequate grain size, sharp grain size distribution and good flowability by using the polymer particles obtd. by dispersing and polymerizing monomers as seeds and absorbing a monomer thereon, then adding the slurry of a coloring agent thereto and polymerizing the mixture. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent which is a dispersant, a water soluble high- polymer as a dispersion stabilizer, arom. vinyl monomer such as styrene and divinyl benzene, and polymn. initiator such as benzoyl peroxide are mixed to prepare a uniform soln. and the soln. is put into a polymn. reaction vessel where the mixture is heated and polymerized. Since the mol.wt. of the resulted polymer is extremely small, the absorption of the monomers is extremely high when these particles are used as the seeds. The monomers adsorbed on the seeds are further polymerized by a suspension polymn. method. The coloring agent is then prepd. into the slurry and is added to the polymn. system. The toner is cleaned and dried after the end of the polymn. The truly spherical toner which does not contain impurities is thus obtd. at a high yield. |
