The equipment applies fluid matter, such as paste or viscous liquid, to the surface of an item to be treated, the matter being introduced by pipe into a chamber having an outlet towards this surface. The chamber contains a piston whose front part (2a) thrusts the matter towards the outlet, with which it is parallel. Passages in the piston allow some of the matter to flow to its rear face. The piston (2) can be disc-shaped, being formed of perforated sheet metal, and the passages can be formed by grooves in its sides, parallel to its axis. The outlet can be subdivided into several ports or slits, and can contain a cloth or strainer through which the matter passes.
