<p>A one piece elevator link having a shank and an eye at each end is made by casting alloy steel to form a blank with eyes of the required size and shape and a shank having a larger diameter and shorter length than required in the finished link. The shank is then hot worked (swaged or forged) to reduce the dia. and increase the length to the required finished sizes. The links are used in matched pairs to suspend a pipe elevator from the block hook of an oil well drilling rig. Links of different lengths can be made from identical cast blanks by varying the degree of hot work and prodn. costs are less than prior art processes.</p> |
