The air turbine driven dental handpiece comprises a housing (1) contg. a blade unit (2) connected to a shaft which supports one or more bearing elements. At least one resilient ring is held by pressure between the bearing elements and the inner peripheral surface of the housing. Between the shaft and bearing elements is an annular radial air gap and a second air gap is disposed in the thrust direction between the bearing elements and the side surface of the part of the blade unit on the shaft side. An annular support (8) is biassed in the thrust direction against the end faces of the bearing elements so that it is held non-rotatably without blocking supply and removal of air to and from the blade unit. The bearing elements are prevented from displacement axially or a direction intersecting with the axes.
