An endless conveyor follows a triangular path that has a vertical section, a horizontal section and a sloping section. The vertical section moves upwards in a vertical channel that forms the bottom of a refuse chute. Retainer rods protrude from the conveyor. At the bottom of the sloping section, all the refuse falls into a collection bin, with the exception of rags, which are held by the retainer rods and released into a separate collection bin.
