<p>Tyres incorporating a coating of lubricant on part of their internal surfaces, where the coating comprises a mixt. of a gelled non-volatile lubricant and filler particles and is applied at a loading of >0.15 mm3/mm2 of the coated surface. The mixt. contains 8-66 vol. % of particles in a size range 2.411 mm which may be from 1.676 mm to 150 mu. Esp. for tyres of trapezoidal section, i.e. with concave sidewalls functioning in compression when inflated but which allow the wheel rims to be supported by a tread of greater width if the tyre is deflated. The lubricant reduces heat generation during deflated rolling. The filler is effective at plugging punctures with restricted loss of tyre press. Pref. the lubricant is an alcohol, pref. a polyethylene- or polypropylene-glycol, or a copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, or a polybutene. The gelling agent may be a silica, a silicate, an acrylic polymer, a polyethylene, or an elastomer soluble in polybutene, e.g. a butyl rubber, an ethylene-propylene based rubber or natural rubber. The particular filler may comprise pieces of shredded rubber or wood flour.</p> |
