<p>The expansion chamber is for mounting on a drainage device for fluids from the pleural or other cavities. It is equipped with a collector chamber, the expansion chamber acting as a supplementary collector chamber. The expansion chamber has an inlet for connection to the cavity to be drained, mountings for securing it rigidly to the drainage device, and a device for equalising the absolute pressure in it with that in the main collector chamber. The drainage device can be designed to maintain a vacuum in the cavity and on the collected liquids. An opening in the top of the expansion chamber is connected to part of the drainage device not in contact with the collected liquid.</p> |
