The method and the device are intended for the aseptic filling of containers, for example bottles (19), with liquids. In a sterilisation phase preceding the filling, a hot sterilisation medium in gas or vapour form is applied to the inner surfaces, which bound the interior of the container, to the mouth and to the outer surface adjoining the mouth of each container. In this arrangement, the container (19) is arranged in a chamber (24') which at least partially accommodates said container. The sterilisation medium is introduced into the container at a distance from the mouth by means of a filling tube (23) which is used for subsequent filling, so that, at least during part of the sterilisation phase, a stream of sterilisation medium from the filling tube comes into contact with the inner surface of the container bottom and is moved radially outwards along the bottom, upwards along the inner surface of the peripheral container wall and outwards around the mouth of the container and also downwards.
