The electrons of the beam are coherent i.e. in phase, and are extracted from a photo-cathode by striking it with a coherent monochromatic electromagnetic radiation to which the photo-cathode is sensitive. A material is struck by the electrons with the required speed to emit X-rays on contacting the material. The coherently emitted x-rays stimulate production of further X-ray emission in a medium with population inversion that comprises ionised atoms suiting stimulation emission. This emission is obtained by a single passage of coherent radiation through a metal plasma and is concentrated in a narrow beam by a magnetic field having a pinch effect.
|
