PURPOSE:To effectively regenerate an Al alloy without using harmful gases, by adding alkali silicide of low m.p. to a molten Al alloy containing Mg and Ca and then removing MgO and CaO formed by the reaction. CONSTITUTION:Either or both of Na2CO3 and K2CO3 are mixed with silica sand, and the resulting mixture is fired so as to be formed into vitreous alkali silicide of low m.p. This alkali silicide is pulverized and formed into a flux together with other solvents, which is added to molten Al principally composed of Al scrap containing Mg and Ca. Since MgO and CaO formed as reaction proceeds rise to the surface of the molten metal in the form of slag, this slag is removed. By this method, the Al alloy can be regenerated with superior workability at the temp. of the molten Al.
|
