PURPOSE:To efficiently purify the titled substance without causing popcorn polymerization, by carrying out distillation in the presence of a stannous compound and/or a ferrous compound while adding an ester of nitrous acid continuously or intermittently. CONSTITUTION:A compound (e.g. methacrylic acid-2-isocyanatoethyl ester) shown by the formula (R is H, CH3, vinyl, phenyl or -CH2COO-A-NCO; R' is H or CH3 or -CH2COO-A-NCO; A is 2-14C alkylene) is purified by distillation in the presence of a stannous compound and/or a ferrous compound (preferably stannous chloride) while adding an ester of nitrous acid (e.g. diethylene glycol monobutyl ether nitrite) continuously or intermittently. The distillation is carried out without causing polymerization. In the distillation, preferably a polymerization inhibitor (e.g. hydroquinone) to vinyl compounds is added. |
