PURPOSE:To obtain the title rare-earth element permanent magnet material having low resistance to deformation and an excellent magnetic characteristic by composing the material of the region of the crystallites consisting of a rare-earth element, a transition metal, and a semimetal and having a high content of the rare-earth element and the region of the crystallites consisting of the same material and having a low content of the rare-earth element. CONSTITUTION:The permanent magnet material has the region consisting essentially of the crystallites having <=2mum mean grain diameter and having a composition of RX(T,M)100-X (where R is a rare-earth element M is a semimetal consisting essentially of B, T is a transition metal consisting essentially of Fe and Co and contains >=1 kind among Zr, Nb, Ti, V, Hf, Ta, and W, and 5<=X<12atom.%) and the region consisting of the crystallites having <=2mum mean grain diameter and having a composition of RX'(T,M)100-X' (where R is a rare-earth element, T is a transition metal consisting essentially of Fe or Fe and Co, M is a semimetal consisting essentially of B, and 12<=X'<=20atom.%). The permanent magnet material has low resistance to deformation and excellent press-formability or plastic workability. Accordingly, the material can be highly densified and made highly anisotropic, and a permanent magnet having an excellent magnetic characteristic can be obtained. |
