Film is cleaned by: (a) providing a cleaning zone and passing film laterally through that zone, (b) providing streams of gas flowing toward opposite sides of the film as it passes in that zone, (c) supplying ions of opposite polarity to the air streams and in cyclically reversing polarity relation, (d) and also brushing the film opposite sides as the film passes through that zone, thereby causing the brushes to center the film as it passes through the zone.
