An electrical wire comprises a metallic electrical conductor, an insulating mineral layer electrolytically formed on the conductor from a chemically delaminated layered silicate, and an overlying layer of polymeric insulation, the layer of polymeric insulation having an inner surface comprising a material that exhibits a carbonaceous char residue of not more than 15 % by weight, preferably, substantially 0 % by weight. Wires having insulation with relatively low carbonaceous char are able to pass circuit integrity tests such as IEC 331 in which the cable is held at 900 DEG C. |
