PURPOSE: To obtain chewing gum having a hard texture and excellent in shelf stability by kneading a chewing gum base with a sweetener and a specified hydrophilic stabilizing system. CONSTITUTION: A homogeneous liq. mixture of 1-10wt.% gelatin having a Bloom value of 100-250 with 80-98.5wt.% glycerol is heated to 75-85 deg.C, 0.5-10wt.% water is added and they are mixed until the gelatin disappears. The resultant mixture is preserved at 40-85 deg.C to obtain a hydrophilic stabilizing system, 0.001-90wt.% water-soluble sweetener such as sugar and 2-15wt.% of the stabilizing system are added to 5-60wt.% chewing gum base such as chicle, and 4-30wt.% filler such as talc, <=10wt.% colorant such as TiO2 , a flavor, a softening agent, a plasticizer, etc., are further added if necessary. They are kneaded at 60-90 deg.C and molded in a desired shape. |
