PURPOSE:To make fine of crystal grain and to improve hot workability by impressing the specific magnetic field with the specific equation to an electromagnetic coil arranged at outside of casting surface of a mold and giving molten metal in the mold flowing to horizontal direction. CONSTITUTION:In continuous casting for copper-nickel alloy, the electromagnetic coil 3 is arranged at outside of the casting surface of the mold 1. Then, by impressing a magnetic field so that (B<2>f)<1/2> (wherein, B: magnetic flux density- gauss, f: frequency Hz) becomes 500-3,500 on the casting surface, the continuous casting is executed while essentially giving the molten metal 4 in the mold 1 the flowing to the horizontal direction, to obtd. the copper-nickel alloy. By this method, the crystal grain size is made to <=about 1mm at the whole range of the cross section of the cast slab and defect of the casting is eliminated and the hot workability can be made to good. |
