The key 1 for a safety barrel, in particular for manoeuvring a lock or bolt, includes a body 3 intended to penetrate inside a key housing, provided in a barrel rotor mounted in a stator, the key body being provided with at least one movable pusher 9 which can be translated, suitable for moving with a movement of limited amplitude in a chamber 10 provided in the key. The pusher 9 is intended to interact with a positioning member provided on the rotor, so as to make a movable rotor pin project from its chamber 10 and to push this movable rotor pin until it reaches a position allowing the rotation of the rotor with respect to the stator, the chamber 10 of the movable pusher extending along a direction which is orthogonal to the main longitudinal axis A of the key body. The chamber 10 provided in the key body has a cross-section which is in particular rectangular in shape so that by interaction with the cross-section of conjugate shape of the pusher 9, it prevents any rotation of the pusher about its longitudinal axis B inside the chamber 10. <IMAGE>
