<p>PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled compound in reduced processes, by reacting 2,3-epoxy-5-isopropenyl-2-methylcyclohexanone with an alkali metal methylate and then directly subjecting the reaction product to oxidation reaction without carrying out hydrolysis. CONSTITUTION:2,3-Epoxy-5-isopropenyl-2-methylcyclohexanone expressed by formula I is reacted with an alkali metal methylate (e.g. NaOCH3) expressed by formula II (M is alkali metal atom.) using e.g. CH3OH as a solvent at -20-+100 deg.C and as necessary oxidized. Successively further ketone in the resultant reaction product is protected to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula III (when R<1> is H, R<2> is -CO2CH3 and when R<2> is H, R<1> is -CO2CH3; when either one of X and Y is hydroxyl group, other is H or X and Y together form O or protecting group of ketone).</p> |
