The boring device consists of a boring connection piece fastened to the pipeline and of a boring implement which can be attached with its housing to the boring connection piece and through which the boring rod passes which has the boring tool at its inner end and an engagement point at its outer end for the rotation of the boring rod. The housing is of two-part design, the lower part being attached to the boring connection piece in a manner secure against relative rotation and leaking of the medium and its upper part engaging with it by means of a thread and determining the drilling rate. To achieve this, it has hitherto been necessary to rotate the top part of the housing independently of the rotation of the boring rod. In order to fulfil various application requirements and simplify the actuation of the boring implement, it is proposed that the turning handle of the top part of the housing at the same time be designed as a coupling member which can be transferred between a coupling position, which produces a rotationally locked connection between the top part of the housing and the boring rod, into a release position where this connection is released.
